J.Q. Dickinson Salt-Works is a revival of a family business that started in 1813 on the Virginia frontier. Malden, WV sits on top of the remnants of the ancient Iapetus Ocean, one of earth's earliest seas. The salt has been dissolved by a fresh water aquifer. They draw this pristine brine to the surface with a well. It is solar evaporated, then hand harvested on the same family land that their ancestors used to make salt in the 1800's. The mineral rich salt has a unique, pleasing flavor and texture, renowned by chefs from around the country. They also expanded their business to be a Mercantile to carry amazing hand crafted items from other Appalachian producers.
